Dental prosthetics
In dentistry, a prosthesis is a substance that is prepared to replace a tooth and surrounding tissue that has been lost due to different factors such as caries or trauma.
The prepared prosthesis’s goal is to restore chewing and speaking functions that have been harmed by the loss of tooth and tissue while still providing an attractive appearance.
The type of prosthesis depends on the amount of tooth and tissue that has been lost.
What is a Complete Denture? (Total Denture = Palate Denture)
It is a form of prosthesis, also known as a palate prosthesis, that can be inserted and removed by the patient and is used when there are no teeth in the mouth.
Treatment Process
It is prepared in an average of 5-6 sessions by measuring and rehearsing, and it is administered to the patient in an average of 2 weeks.
Frequently asked Questions
What Challenges Do I Face While Using?
It does not have the same level of comfort or chewing performance as fixed prostheses since it can be installed and removed by the patient.
The movement in our lower jaw that occurs while talking and eating is less in the lower jaw than in the upper jaw due to our existence. This may adversely affect use in some patients.
Is a wound in the mouth considered normal?
It is common for wounds to occur during the first few weeks as the prosthesis adapts to the patient’s tissues, and these wounds heal with the abrasion of the prosthesis by the dentist.
Does the prosthesis make it difficult for me to speak?
The tongue that extended to the region where there were no teeth became accustomed to speaking in this manner when the prosthesis was first used. Patients complain that their speech changes as a result of this, but this improves over time as the muscles adapt to the prosthesis.
How do I clean it, does it make bad breath?
Prosthetic teeth should not be brushed with paste in the same way as natural teeth are. The abrasives in the paste wear down the prosthesis, causing it to be weakened.
As a result, the prosthesis should be taken out of the mouth, cleaned with liquid soap and a toothbrush by hand, and then reattached. Bad breath should not occur if the cleaning procedure is followed after each meal.
Simultaneously, the prosthesis should be removed at night and placed in water to allow the tissues to relax.
Which is better full prosthesis or implant?
The amount and consistency of bone and soft tissue differs from one patient to the next. At the same time, the patient’s habits include smoking, oral care, chronic diseases, financial situation, etc. many reasons are effective in making implants. As a consequence, until the patient is assessed, this question cannot be answered.
Why did my prosthesis start to fall out over time?
The amount of bone in the prosthesis reduces with time, resulting in melting, and the prosthesis is unable to bind to the tissue and falls because it is unable to adjust to this loss. In this situation, the prosthesis’ condition may be assessed and reinserted into the same prosthesis, or the prosthesis can need to be replaced if the loss is excessive.
Dental Bridge Prosthesis
They are porcelain-based prostheses that are formed by cutting adjacent teeth to replace a missing tooth or teeth. The impression is taken after these adjacent teeth are removed, the infrastructure is rehearsed, the final form is rehearsed, and the prosthesis is adhered. During the cutting of these teeth, tooth sensitivity may occur and it may continue for about 2 months. At the same time, if the patient may not brush properly, the prosthesis and gum harmony deteriorates, and the tooth under the prosthesis starts to decay, so oral care is essential.
